Long R3 IGF-1, an 83-residue analog of human insulin-like growth factor 1. It differs from the 70-residue parent sequence in two ways: arginine is substituted for glutamic acid at position 3, and a 13-residue extension is added at the N-terminus. Together those changes lower its affinity for the IGF binding proteins, which is the property the analog exists for and the reason it is handled as a distinct compound rather than as IGF-1.

Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Because the analog is produced recombinantly and its exact mass depends on the expression system and any residual sequence at the terminus, no empirical formula is stated below; the certificate of analysis for the lot governs.

Lyophilized powder. The sealed vial is stable at room temperature during transit and can be held in a cool, dry, dark place for short periods. For anything beyond short-term holding, store it refrigerated at 36 to 46°F (2 to 8°C), or frozen at minus 4°F (minus 20°C) or below for long-term storage. Keep it away from light, moisture and heat. Lyophilized material is stable for the period stated on the certificate for the lot.

After reconstitution. Refrigerate at 36 to 46°F (2 to 8°C) and use within the window appropriate to the receiving laboratory's protocol. Do not leave reconstituted material at room temperature, and avoid repeated freeze and thaw cycles, which degrade peptide material. Handling and any further storage conditions are the responsibility of the receiving laboratory.
